What Hurts The Most.

Bonjour les gens! How's it goin'?

Well, the bum-squeakin' time is well and truly on. It surely is the aspect of engineering i most despise. With a passion, i must add! And it doesn't help when you have certain subjects in your syllabus which make you want to pull off every strand of hair from the top of your head. And then make you wish you had more hair to pull. Just for the sake of it. Or maybe not.

Each semester has at least one subject like that. But this semester was definitely the heights of it all. Out of the six subjects i have, there's one that well and truly stands out. The special one, as i call it.

The "Special One" makes you question the very existence of sanity, and to a large extent, the very existence of education on this planet. It makes you want to bang your head against the hardest wall possible, till you suffer from brain haemorrhage and you get into a coma(trust me, i'd prefer that). I'd rather be:-

a.)Chased by this gentleman here.

b.)Be at the receiving end of a skull-chop from this beast.

c.)Jump from this building.

d.)Be at the bottom of this massive pile,

than study that subject. It is a subject whose very thought stimulates your inner volcano to explode and erupt into fine streams of 1000°C lava, which burn you instantly as they make their way in the form of runnels down your body. Slow and painful it may be. But that'd be more soothing if you ask me. At the same time, you know you cannot do anything about it. Like throwing those darned books into the deepest possible pit from where no one can recover it. Or maybe sending it into exoatmospheric region and beyond at the Escape Velocity of 11 km/s, into the deepest regions of outer-space, hoping it would collide with the largest possible asteroids and space-rocks on its way, so that it can FEEL the pain it deserves and make it realize the extent of pain that we had to go through because of it. Or maybe you just wished those books didn't exist. There! Why did i bother to write so much i wonder. Preposterous i say!

Rant Over.

For the time being.

Okay, so now you ask me it's name. Well, to me, it's highly offensive. Should i say it? Then don't go complain to mommy if you're offended by it. Okay, you say you really want to know what i'm talking about? Are you sure? I dread to say its name even. Pretty much like the "YouKnowWho" in J.K. Rowling's very own linguistic terms. Except that here, it'd be "YouShouldntKnowWhat". Okay fine, i'm saying it. *gulp* Its called IEM. Industrial Economics and Management, to be precise. *rubs sweat off forehead* . Okay, that was a bit tough. And with right reasons as well. After 4 days of this subject, i don't really want to think of it, nor mention its name. Its dreadful you know. Nightmares are all i can conjure up due to it.

So now you ask why i deem it to be so awful. Well, i tried my best to give you an overview of this subject in the above paragraphs. But only the one who goes through the pain, can feel the magnitude of the pain. This subject has everything that makes you want feel miserable. It sucks out every bit of positivity from within you. It has that "Dementor"-like effect, due to which you can never be happy.

We had 4 days to study this subject, and only one place to study from. The legendary "Three-Day-notes" obviously! You have absolutely no idea of the magnitude of utter rubbish and tripe that's written in there! This subject tells us all about what economy is. As if we didn't already know. It helps define "Money". What is money? Money is a means of exchange, they say. Money helps you buy something. Err, are you sure? I thought it was something else. *makes sarcastic face*. The economics part is a pain, but at least it makes a wee bit sense. Now we come to Management! It basically describes how companies work, how they manage, blah, who they recruit, blah, blah, how they keep them happy, blah, and more of the same. You get the drift don't you? One part of it makes me cringe to the core. It's how the organizations manage to "motivate their workers to work towards the optimized achievement of the objectives of the company, by optimum utilization of resources, by giving them financial incentives". Their very own words. They get you excited don't they? Well, to make it worse, they actually describe in *detail* the so-called "needs" of workers, which must be satisfied in order to motivate them. They actually have five theories on it. FIVE. THEORIES. Theories made by people who have no other job in life. Messrs. McClelland, McGregor, Herzberg, Blanchard and Maslow. I bet they must've been thrown out of their jobs because they let their managers know of their "needs". So their bitterness has culminated into pages and pages of nonsense. They suffer, but make us suffer with them. You know, their "divine motivational theories" have actually motivated me to go travel the world, hunt them down, and let them know my piece of mind. The losers. They'd better be quaking in their pants after reading this i tell you!

The answers given in the notes are stuff of legends if you ask me. For each concept, they have four standard categories. Features, Principles, Merits and Demerits. Conceptually, you'd think they must be different. But believe me, it's all redundant.
Each concept has these categories. They state the same thing. Each category has about 5 points. Each point states one and the same thing. And each concept ends with the parting line: "....and the basic aim should be the optimized work towards achieving the objectives of the company, by making optimum utilization of available resources." Yeah right, like we care! It is so, very, typical!

The beauty of these 3-day notes is that if you bat an eye-lid and the page turns without notice, you're bound to miss one full chapter. But the real cool thing is that you still won't realize it. After all, they state the same thing for pete's sake!!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I really don't know how i've spent four days doing that pathetic excuse of a subject.
At one point, i just put my books aside and shouted out, "Okay, thats bloody enough!!". I was almost in tears doing this subject, and i'm not kidding. Quite honestly, i've never felt this bad for a long long time. What i've written above does no justice to what this subject actually is. Honestly, no one can describe it perfectly. To make things worse, the beautiful monsoon showers, the European Football Championships, the French Open etc have to occur SIMULTANEOUSLY and coincide with this. Thats just such a pathetic thing to happen. I couldn't watch Ana Ivanovic play.
I couldn't watch Maria Sharapova get beat. I couldn't watch Holland play total-football against Italy. I couldn't go out and get myself wet in the rain.

'Nuff said!

But i'm glad it's over now. I've lived through it. I'm alive! Wow, someone needs to pinch me. Its unreal to be absolutely honest. What a feeling!!

The last hurdle still remains though. The hurdle which takes the form of Mathematics.
I clear that hurdle, and i'm DONE! Done for the semester! No exams for another 6 months!! Wow, i just cannot wait.

Anyways dudes and dudettes, i'll be off to chill out now. I need some much-needed chilling to do. But what should i do? Hmmmmmm. Well, going out and getting wet in the rains is a good option for starters. In fact, its a brilliant idea!

I'll be off then!

Laters, blogreaders!

Good day!

Nice blog - just a word of advice (being elder to you I am prone to this disease), use PROPER English. Do journalists use such language?

Thanks for the appreciation. Well could you elaborate on the "proper english" thing you mentioned. I mean,
did i go wrong in too many places. And why journalists? I mean, this is like a personal blog. Anyways, thanks a lot once again. Cheerio!
